BYPASS BRIDGE TAKING SHAPE

WORK is progressing well on the new bridge which will carry the Temple Sowerby bypass over the River Eden.

So far 88 precast concrete parapets, each weighing four tonnes have been erected; 750 tonnes of concrete have been poured to build the bridge deck, with another 1,350 tonnes to go; and 216 tonnes of steel reinforcing rods will be used to strengthen the concrete.

“Work on the scheme, including the bridge, isprogressing well and we hope for good weather during spring to crack on further,” said a Highways Agency spokesman.
