Date: Friday 24th October 2008

MAURICE Peddelty, the present headteacher of Samuel King’s School, Alston, welcomed his successor, John Whittle, to the school on Thursday.

Mr. Peddelty will be retiring as head at the end of the Christmas term. New head Mr. Whittle has been appointed and will take up his new position at the start of the new term in January.

Mr. Whittle is presently deputy head at Beacon Hill School, in West Cumbria, but this week he visited Alston to meet his future pupils and the teachers he will be working with.

Mr. Peddelty came to Samuel King’s School in September, 1990, as deputy head and was appointed headteacher in September, 2000.

He said: “I wish John a successful and happy time in his new school.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 18 years at Samuel King’s and will be sad to leave the pupils and my colleagues. I wish John and the school the best of luck for the future.”
