PENRITH businessman Steve Atkinson, founder of Atkinson Building Contractors, travelled to London for the final of the APCRG national responsible business champion awards, which was held at Parliament.

Nominations were submitted by MPs from constituencies from all over the UK, and Mr. Atkinson’s firm was put forward by Penrith and the Border MP Rory Stewart.

At the reception, Mr. Stewart congratulated Mr. Atkinson on his nomination and also for the invaluable contribution that his company had made locally.

“This award is fantastic recognition to the role that businesses such as Atkinson Builders are playing in their communities,” said Mr. Stewart. “I am thrilled to witness their championing of corporate responsibility, and look forward to seeing more of our flourishing businesses take on from their example.”

The winner, chosen by a parliamentary judging panel, was Zurich Insurance and the runner-up Standard Life Aberdeen. Thanet Earth was in third place. The awards were presented by Sarah Newton, the minister for disabled people, health and work.
