Rigg links up with Skelton at Queen of the South

Date: Friday 3rd June 2016

FORMER Penrith AFC player Steven Rigg has spoken of his delight after agreeing to join Scottish Championship side Queen of the South.

Rigg (pictured) was released by Carlisle United at the end of last season following boss Keith Curle’s first team squad shake-up.

But the 23-year-old striker, from Keswick, has wasted little time in finding a new club. And he will join Queen of the South once his United contract officially expires at the end of this month.

He will link up with manager Gavin Skelton, of Appleby, who recently secured the top job at Palmerston Park following a season there as a number two.

“I am massively looking forward to it,” said Rigg, who made a dream step-up to professional football when he moved to Brunton Park from non-league neighbours Penrith in 2014.

“It is one less thing to worry about. I just want to get started and get playing again. Hopefully I can go there and make a fresh start, get in the team and be playing every week.”

He added: “It will be a good experience against the likes of Hibernian, and hopefully we will get one of the big teams in the cup Celtic, Rangers or Hearts.”
