Trust proposal shows imaginative thinking
Sir, I was so pleased to see your front page article “Plea for community backing for Appleby care home plans” (Herald, 18th November).
The Oaklea Trust’s plans to reopen Edenside with different accommodation units shows imaginative thinking bearing in mind the needs and desires of the local community.
We wanted our old and frail residents to have a refuge here surrounded by their friends and families amid familiar surroundings.
Cumbria County Council delayed over announcing that Edenside was to be closed, it moved our old people into substandard accommodation and, in spite of repeated promises to come up with a robust plan, it has still failed to come up with anything. Thank goodness for the Oaklea Trust.
We have evidence that the Oaklea Trust is efficient and effective — just look at the Appleby Hub.
The trust needs to show there is local support for its plans. There is a deadline of 30th November for individuals to show their support by writing to The Oaklea Trust Head Office, 48 Stramondgate, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 4BD.
Appleby fought hard to save Edenside. Here is a way we can all help. Yours etc,
