Keswick take first blood against Appleby as Wetheriggs move into second spot

KESWICK took first blood against James Cropper Westmorland League Division I rivals Appleby with a 2-1 league win on Saturday — the first of three meetings in as many weeks between the two sides.

They also meet at Appleby next Saturday in the first round of the Westmorland FA Benevolent Trophy, and on Wednesday, 10th October, they clash in the Invitation Trophy final at Kendal Town’s ground.

Also in Division I on Saturday, Wether-iggs moved into second place in the table behind Keswick with a resounding 9-2 triumph over Sedbergh Wanderers. Scorers were Coleman (3), Johnson, Joe Henderson, Murray-Jones, Wallace, Malarkey and Ferguson.

Penrith Reserves ran out 6-2 winners over Endmoor KGR with goals from Rhys Graham, Hayden Wilson (2), Chris Irwin, Bret Digby and Lee Stockdale. Man of the match was Jimmy Smith.

Kirkoswald recovered from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Ibis, with goals from Brad Renwick and Ryan Bell.

Basement side Shap went down 3-4 in a close encounter at home to Windermere.
