“Out of the blue” United debut for Appleby teenager

Date: Friday 7th September 2018

APPLEBY teenager Liam McCarron made an unexpected first team debut for Carlisle United on Tuesday at the tender age of 17.

The United youth team player came on to the wing for the last 10 minutes of United’s 3-2 victory over Morecambe in the Checkatrade Trophy and got a warm reception from the crowd and a huge roar when he made his first touch.

The former Appleby Grammar School student is one of three Eden-area players in the United squad. Captain Danny Grainger, who missed out on Tuesday through injury, lives at Lazonby and goalkeeper Adam Collin is from Great Salkeld.
