Penrith win praise as Carlisle United take friendly spoils

Date: Friday 20th July 2018

HUNDREDS of spectators basked in glorious sunshine as Penrith AFC and Carlisle United met for an annual pre-season fixture which was friendly both on and off the pitch.

Both paraded new signings and fielded potential players keen to make their mark ahead of the 2018-19 season.

United ran out 2-0 winners, with goals either side of half-time by Cole Stockton and Max Brown.

But it was a worthwhile exercise for both teams on a day when some much-needed cash was collected in the Penrith coffers.

“Thank you to everyone from Penrith AFC,” Carlisle United posted on Twitter after the game. “Made us feel unbelievably welcome yet again. Fantastic stuff.”
