A66 crash truck driver jailed

Date: Wednesday 29th August 2018

A TRUCK driver has been jailed after he was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving on the A66, following a one-week trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

Ashley Cole (56), Ecclesfield, near Sheffield, had previously admitted causing the death of 30-year-old Jamie Armstrong by careless driving but always denied the more serious charge.

Mr Armstrong died after suffering "catastrophic" head injuries when his Audi A4 was in collision with an HGV in darkness next to Stainmore cafe, east of Brough, at 5-20am on 8th September, 2016.

Today Judge Barbara Forrester sentenced Cole to two years' imprisonment and disqualified him from driving for three years.
