Child rape man jailed for 14 years

Date: Friday 11th January 2019

A PENRITH man who admitted raping a child was jailed for 14 years by a judge at Carlisle Crown Court today.

Simon Peter Turnbull (44), Fairhill Road, admitted during an earlier court appearance raping a girl under the age of 13, between 1st January and 31st July, 2018.

He also pleaded guilty to a second "multiple incident" charge relating to offences during the same period.

Turnbull admitted his crimes only after being questioned by police for a second time.

Judge Peter Davies said: "Your persistent and disgusting course of conduct was committed for your own sexual gratifications. No thought was given for the welfare of the girl."

In addition to the 14-year jail term, Turnbull must sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

He must serve at least half the 14-year term in custody.
