Councillors urged to ditch Penrith masterplan
A PETITION opposing the Penrith masterplan for more than 5,000 new houses and 70 hectares of employment land to the north of the Beacon will be debated by Eden councillors this evening.
The full council will have 15 minutes to debate the petition, put forward by Keep Penrith Special, which calls on the council to reject the strategic masterplan.
The founding member of the protest group, Adrian Hill, will have five minutes to speak to councillors on the reasons he thinks the ideas, which do not yet form planning policy but could inform a future review of the local plan, should be rejected.
He is planning to hand out jars of treacle, labelled with a recipe for "parkin" the masterplan, to councillors as they enter the council chamber.
