Driver of crash vehicle dies

THE driver of a vehicle which collided with a pedestrian and two other vehicles in Penrith yesterday has died this morning.

Police are appealing for information following the collision, which happened in the Market Square area at 2-23pm and involved three vehicles.

A silver Mercedes mounted the pavement and collided with a pedestrian before colliding with two other cars, a Mazda 2 and a Renault Koleos.

A pedestrian, a woman aged in her 50s from Penrith, was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle, where her condition is described as critical but stable.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 90-year-old Penrith man, was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, and pronounced dead in the early hours of this morning.
