AN organisation that encourages the health and wellbeing of thousands of youngsters in Eden is at risk of closure because of a funding crisis.

The Eden Valley Sports Partnership (EVSP) could close by September if new grant funding is not found, its development manager has confirmed.

The partnership is in need of an extra £20,000 annually to continue. Last year its leader, Becky Wolstenholme, contacted Eden District Council on a couple of occasions about securing local funding in the region of £10,000. However, she was told her plea had been discussed privately and it had been agreed the authority would not help.

Ms Wolstenholme said: “We run a phenomenal service on a shoestring and we have been funding it for years on a hook or by crook policy as we have been unable to secure additional help."
