Stag party drinking games led to death of 29-year-old

Date: Friday 24th November 2017

A STAG party held in Eden ended in tragedy after a “young man who had everything to live for” died as a result of alcohol intoxication and cocaine use, an inquest heard.

Ralph James Dowson, aged 29, of Kirkby Fleetham, Northallerton, was found to be cold and unresponsive the morning after a session of heavy drinking which had involved party games being played at Maughanby Farm, near Glassonby.

Toxicology tests revealed that Mr. Dowson had 515mcg of alcohol in 100ml of blood — which is 6.5 times the legal drink-drive limit of 80mcg.

There was also a small amount of cocaine in his system consistent with recent use, the inquest at Cockermouth was told.
