Three accused over nuts in food claim
THREE Eden men are due to face charges for allegedly selling food which contained peanut protein when a customer had specified the meal should be free of peanuts.
The offences were allegedly committed in Penrith on 16th August when the customer ordered a butter chicken meal, and naan bread.
Sufian Abu (45), Indiagate, Burrowgate, appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday when he entered no pleas. His two co-accused — Tojomul Hoque, Bridge Street, Appleby, and Suhail Miah (43), Church Walk, Kirkby Stephen — were not present during the hearing.
They each face four charges, two of selling food not of the nature, substance or quality demanded by the purchaser, and two of failing to comply with EU rules on food safety and hygiene. The case was adjourned until Wednesday.
