Town hall extension plan back on table two years later
EDEN Council is to resurrect its mothballed single site project next week with the release of details of a revised £2.3 million plan.
Almost two years to the day after the controversial project was set aside in April, 2016, a meeting of the full council on Thursday is being asked to agree to a redesign and extension of Penrith Town Hall, and a major redevelopment of Mansion House.
Both ideas would be subject to planning permission and listed building consent. No works could start until a “full business case” has been made and further feasibility studies undertaken.
Councillors are being asked to include a “provisional” budget of £2.3 million in the authority’s 2018-019 capital programme. A sum of £10,000 is also being requested for tendering and a further £50,000 for “project management”.
