FOUR cars were damaged when a tractor drove down a narrow country road lined with parked vehicles on Sunday.

Onlookers watched on at Seathwaite, in the Borrowdale Valley, as a tractor, thought to be towing a sheep trailer, drove by the tightly packed cars, damaging four of them at it passed.

Police received reports that four cars were damaged at Seathwaite between 9am and noon. A police spokesman said: "It is believed that the cars have been damaged by a tractor and trailer. Police are carrying out inquiries and ask anyone with information to make contact."

One eyewitness left a note on a vehicle, which was said to have suffered the worst of the damage.

It said: "Just thought you would like to know what happened to your car. The big tractor carrying a huge sheep trailer left the farm at the end of the road.

"I then saw him stop along the road. He couldn't get through the gap and couldn't turn around. So he just went through, damaging at least four cars, yours coming off worst. I just thought you would want to know."

Witnesses or anyone with information can contact Cumbria police on the 101 number.
