UPDATE: Crash brings town centre to standstill

A PEDESTRIAN has been taken to hospital with serious leg injuries following a traffic collision in Penrith.

The area around the monument is still at a standstill following the collision at about 2-15pm. Ambulances, police and fire services all rushed to the scene, along with air ambulance crew.

Bystanders are in shock after witnessing the incident, which is believed to have involved a Mercedes vehicle, which is then thought to have collided with two other cars.

Part of the railings by HSBC bank have been destroyed.

A police spokesman advised the public to avoid the area if possible.
