New head is a familiar face

Date: Saturday 1st April 2000

MAURICE Peddelty (below) has been appointed the new head of Samuel King’s School, Alston.

Mr. Peddelty, who has been acting head for the past year, and deputy head for many years previously, will begin his permanent role from September. He takes over from the previous head, Mrs. Janice Moore.

Governors’ chairman Christopher Reed said 20 applications were received for the post, all from good quality applicants from around the country.

He said: “This pleased the governors to think that so many high class professionals would wish to come to Alston to take on the role of headship of our school.

“Since moving to Samuel King’s School from Beccles in Suffolk, Mr. Peddelty has been deputy head and over the last year he has been a very effective acting head teacher. He has already made an impact with pupils, staff and parents with his unique, decisive, positive and enthusiastic style and we look forward to working with him in the future.

“The school has a very sound base on which we are already building and we are developing our aims for even higher standards and quality of education in the future,” added Mr. Reed.
