PENRITH Vagabonds travel to Wigton this afternoon for the Cumbria Shield cup final against Silloth (3pm kick-off).

The Vagabonds booked their place with a convincing semi-final victory over Ambleside. For today’s clash, the Penrith side are boosted by the return of Joe Forrester from an ankle injury while Jimmy Morton is also included. However, fly half Tony Threlkeld and influential goal kicker Ben Crouch are both unavailable.

Despite conceding a try in the opening two minutes, Penrith Vagabonds booked a place in the Cumbria Shield cup final.

The Vagabonds stormed back from the early setback, largely due to a John Sealby brace of tries and Ben Crouch’s score.

In the second period Penrith played percentage football with Newton and Thomlinson’s probing kicks forcing Ambleside back.

Further tries for Terry Balmer (2), Berger, Snaith and Simon Veitch completed the scoring.

Delighted manager Jimmy Morton said: “The lads did themselves proud. The backs were efficient and the forwards outstanding.”

Skipper Adam Day added: “We deserved this win. Whatever happens on final day our boys will give their all. We have a good squad of honest players that will be working for each other.”
