A BBC film crew with Dr. Alice Roberts, presenter on Coast, The Incredible Human Journey and Time Team, visited Lazonby pool on Wednesday to film for a program on swimming in the outdoors.

The production team needed to film some controlled experiments on the effects of cold water on the human body. Lazonby pool is normally heated to 26C during the summer season, so it was fortunate that the season had just finished and heating had been turned off.

This enabled the presenter to swim several lengths of the pool so the scientists could carry out tests to find the effects of the cold water on her body.

“We are always keen to find additional uses for the pool and this was an exciting opportunity for an out-of-season activity” said a pool spokesman. The program will be aired on the BBC next spring.
