MORE than 50 competitors aged three to 16 battled for trophies and medals in Lazonby pool’s annual Bob Smith Gala.
There was fierce competition in most of the classes, including a new race for pre-school children. The year four and under category proved particularly popular, with four heats run for the girls. Competitors and their families enjoyed a delicious barbecue in the sunshine during the day. Trophies and gold, silver and bronze medals were presented to the winners by Christine Hill, chairman of the pool association. The gala is held annually as part of a range of events run at the open air swimming pool in Lazonby. The pool is now open from noon to 6pm daily until the beginning of September.
