UPPER Eden maintained their unbeaten home record with an unexpectedly narrow victory against a resilient St. Benedict’s side, but were disappointed with a somewhat below par performance, due in part perhaps to the absence of skipper and playmaker Matt Allinson who had earlier picked up an ankle injury.

25 YEARS PENRITH

The last patients at Penrith’s Jubilee Cottage Hospital moved out as the building went out of health service use. Four men and five women patients had breakfast there on the day of closure and were then transferred by ambulance to the new Jubilee ward of Penrith Hospital in time for lunch. The cottage hospital was then cleaned and locked up. It is shortly due to go on sale as part of a rationalisation scheme by the East Cumbria Health Authority. Miss Heather Burton, assistant community manager for Penrith and Eden, said: “The move went very smoothly and the nine patients are nicely settled into the new ward.”
