IT is 35 years since the first Matron of Penrith New Hospital, Miss Dorothy Baird, left to head Carlisle’s maternity services. She was presented with gifts from hospital staff and patients, the League of Friends and the town’s doctors. Left to right: Miss Baird, Sister M. H. Ogle, Sister A. K. Tyres, Sister A. J. SOME of the group of 23 Lake District national park voluntary wardens and rangers who tackled two large dumps of old cars and other rubbish on Moor Divock, overlooking Pooley Bridge, in June, 1979. All the major items were removed with the exception of one old car enjoying a temporary new role as a haven for nesting birds.

THE entertainments committee of Alston Football Club produced a revue, with the theme of the moon landing, which was presented in the town hall on four separate nights in December, 1969. The producer, Mr. Len Barham, art master at Samuel King’s School, is pictured with some of the cast.

PENRITH Castle Park was in its infancy when this postcard shot appeared in 1929. The park had been opened six years earlier as a result of initiative and determination on the part of the old urban district council in the face of resistance from niggardly ratepayers at the time. There are now plans to update the park.
