A QUARTER of a million pound investment in new-look spa changing facilities at the North Lakes Hotel, Penrith, was celebrated at a champagne event on Friday.

Spa members who have been loyal to the facility since it opened 25 years ago joined staff at the North Lakes to raise a glass in celebration of the refurbishment.

Spanish glass shower cubicles and lockers, new sensor high volume showers and new saunas have all been installed, giving the changing area a fresh and luxurious feel, explained general manager Antony Penny.

During the refurbishment work on the ladies’ changing area, male members gave up their own changing area to the women and went into a temporary facility.

As a reward for their “chivalry”, Mr. Penny and the hotel staff laid on a special evening for the men on Thursday, with a guest appearance by Daniel Thwaites Breweries production manager Ian Bearpark. A pie and pea supper was accompanied by beer tasting and a talk about the heritage of the brewery, which is the parent company of Shire Hotels, the group to which the North Lakes Hotel belongs.
