Death at 74 of former Keswick mayor
A FORMER mayor of Keswick and an Allerdale councillor, Martin Pugmire, has died, aged 74.
Mr Pugmire, a retired teacher, was elected to the borough council in a by-election for the Keswick ward in September, 2011, and retained his seat in the 2015 elections.
He had decided not to stand at borough level again in next week’s election, but was a candidate for the town council, on which he had served for 14 years. He was the town mayor in 2010 and 2014. Town council clerk Lynda Walker said: “We were very fond of him, he will be sadly missed.
“He was an experienced, dedicated councillor and a lovely man. You could not have had a better councillor.”
As Mr Pugmire was a candidate for the Keswick East ward on the town council, that particular election has been cancelled.
A new date will be announced shortly.
