Date: Friday 2nd December 2011

A SUCCESSFUL launch has taken place of acommunity radio station dedicated to Eden which features news, local advertisements and music.

Manned by volunteers, Eden FM which has a bandwidth of 87.7 FM went live on Friday. One of the DJs is Richard Bracken, aged 16, of Penrith, who is in the sixth form at the town’s Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

He said that having his own radio show was a “dream come true” and it was great to be able to play the music he liked for the enjoyment of others. He hopes that the experience could lead to a future career in broadcasting.

As well as producing a “school’s out hour” on Mondays to Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm, involving pupils from QEGS and Ullswater Community College, Richard’s own show of “music and harmless banter” airs on Fridays from 5pm to 7pm. As part of the show he invites listeners and those watching on-line at www.edenfm.co.uk to “start their weekend”.

Breakfast anchor Sian is a resident DJ at The Warehouse, Penrith, and other local presenters include Martin Cowin, of Brough, Stef Yourell, of Temple Sowerby, and Lee Quinn, chairman andmanaging director of Eden FM.

Monday night is live band night with Ben Eggleston and Lora Elliott.
