Electric bus takesto Alston streets
AN electric bus took to the streets of Alston for the first time at the weekend.
It was purchased by Alston Moor Business Association with financial support from United Utilities. An official launch will take place once more volunteer drivers have been trained.
The initial route covers journeys from South Tynedale Railway to the Spar store, then up Front Street to the highest car park at Fairhill, and back again. More will be added once the service becomes established.
The “free to ride” service is seen as an ambitious project in the town, where there are also plans for a major heritage redevelopment, to include visitor and business space, and a “dark skies” experience with an observatory.
