Sir, May I, once again, use the medium of your newspaper to thank all those people who combined to make such a memorable morning in Alston on Saturday for our part of the North Cumbria hospital rally.
The atmosphere was terrific and was just what was needed to make our statement that our hospital and its services are worth fighting for, and to show our solidarity with the other eight North Cumbria hospitals also under threat.
We must mention the girls who made the coffee, manned the cake stall and raffle and washed up; our own firefighters; the stewards on the playing field; the police; Hendersons; and, of course, the Harley Davidson bikers; the agricultural boys who escorted David Maclean; Cathy Renwick, Hartside Cafe; the driver of the double decker bus; our “sound” man; and many more. For our lobbying trip to London, we must commend Wright Bros. for their courtesy and help, and the two drivers who took us there with such skill. Thank you all. Yours etc,
(Chairman, Alston Hospital League of Friends)
Chapel Terrace, Alston.
