Open day atalmshouses

Residents of Lady Anne’s almshouses in Appleby welcomed visitors at an open day to raise funds for a summerhouse. Artist Mark Hilsden displays his painting of the courtyard with residents (left to right) Pauline Shieldhouse, Valerie Kendall, Joyce Haigh and Lorna Buckle looking on. Visitors looked round some of the cottages, viewed an exhibition of historical items in the chapel, enjoyed refreshments and purchased raffle tickets to win Mr Hilsden’s original illustration
