200 take part in revived rugby club medals

Date: Friday 31st May 2019

THE wet bank holiday weather did not dampen the spirits of the players and spectators who flocked to Penrith Rugby Club on Sunday.

The club’s fundraising committee has worked hard over the last few months to bring back the traditional Rugby Club medals football competition — modernised as a Soccer 6 tournament.

The 6-a-side event — always played on the late May bank holiday — was a mainstay of the local football calendar, and even though it is more than 10 years since it was last organised, the presence of over 200 players across 20 teams proved it to be as popular as ever. In fact, many older players and spectators were delighted at its return.
