A LOOK in the archives this week by Penrith Cricket Club scorer John Hendry revealed that England star Ben Stokes, who turned 28 on Tuesday, made an eye-catching appearance for Cockermouth II at Tynefield Park as a 14-year-old.

The all-rounder, who hails from Cockermouth, smashed an unbeaten 103 from only 64 deliveries as he helped his side to an eight-wicket victory over Penrith II in August, 2005.

The Penrith team that day was C. Walker, J. Ruddick, B. Winter, L. Hall, K. Reed, W. Cartmel, J. Lawson, D. McLean, G. Birtle, J. Winter and J. Dulson.
