Trio selected for European Mountain Running Championships
EDEN’S Sarah Tunstall and Eve Pannone, along with Keswick AC’s Jacob Adkin, have been selected by British Athletics for the European (Uphill) Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt, Switzerland, on 7th July.
Sarah, who is from Kirkby Stephen and runs for Kendal AC, not only won the trial event in Keswick at the weekend, but also took individual silver and team gold in the previous championships in 2017. She said: “I am delighted to be part of such a strong GB team and to be racing back in Zermatt.”
Trials winner Jacob Adkin leads a strong senior men’s line-up which includes his coach, Robbie Simpson, of Deeside Runners — last year’s Commonwealth Games marathon bronze medallist.
A new-look junior women’s team will see three athletes making their British squad debuts, including Eve Pannone, who is a member of Penrith-based Eden Runners and is coached by Derek Hurton.
The European Mountain Running Championships alternate between an uphill course and an up and down course each year. This year’s is uphill, with the seniors taking on a 10km course with 1,020 metres of ascent, and the juniors a 5.9km course with 448 metres of ascent.
