“Delight” at outstanding rating for Eden GP practice
AN Eden GP practice has been rated outstanding by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission.
Kirkoswald Surgery was judged to be outstanding in three of five categories — caring, responsive and well led — and notched up good ratings for being safe and effective, with an overall rating of outstanding.
The practice is run by Dr Viv Purdy, who took it over less than a year ago. She expressed her delight at the inspectors’ findings.
“We are absolutely delighted, of course. I think the outstanding rating is due to the really strong team we have here, and the fact that we all work together,” she told the Herald.
The inspectors’ report stated that the practice was “operating at a high level across all areas and had continued to develop well following their transition to a new provider”.
Feedback from service users and stakeholders was described as “continually positive”.
Tailored and flexible services designed to meet the needs of individual patients also drew praise, as did the effectiveness of care and treatment of patients.
“The practice was consistently ranked among the top practices in the local area for feedback relating to care,” said the report. “We were given many examples of outstanding care by patients we spoke to and those who left comment cards.” Improvements were also driven by the leadership involving all staff in the running of the practice and being open to new ideas.
The practice had worked hard to increase uptake by patients of health reviews and had vastly improved the number of NHS health checks being carried out.
When it came to population group ratings, the practice was judged to be outstanding right across the board, from older people, to families and young people, those of working age and people with poor mental health.
The practice provides services to around 2,500 patients from premises in the centre of the village.
