Honours for district nurse and parish council chairman

PENRITH district nurse Alison Kitson and Patterdale Parish Council chairman Rob Shephard are both named in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Ms Kitson, of Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, is awarded the British Empire Medal for services to nursing, and Mr Shephard is made OBE for services to the environment and to the community in Patterdale.

Other Cumbrians honoured are:

CBE: Professor Stephen Eames, chief executive, North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust and Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, for services to the NHS.

OBE: David George Thomas Bloomer, Carlisle, for services to women's health.

BEM: Gerald Humes, Workington, for voluntary and charitable services.

John Stephen Pownceby, Barrow, for services to school athletics in Cumbria.

Dr Leonard Arthur Robinson, Kendal, for voluntary service to the community in South Cumbria.

George Martyn Welch, Kendal, for voluntary service to the community in South Cumbria.
