Lorry fire causes M6 tailbacks
A FIRE on the M6 near Southwaite services this morning led to delays of at least half an hour.
All lanes on the southbound carriageways were briefly closed by police after the blaze at around 6-30am.
The outside lane was reopened just before 9am and the middle lane was reopened just after 10am.
Four fire crews attended the scene with Cumbria police putting in the road closure at around 7am.
The blue coloured lorry was reported to be carrying logs at the time of the blaze.
Three police vehicles handled the road closure on the stretch between Junction 42 at Carlisle South and Junction 41 at Catterlen.
Cumbria police confirmed no-one was injured in the fire and they are awaiting recovery of the vehicle.
Highways England are working with the fire crews and police and said the queuing traffic stretched for several miles.
Elsewhere, delays of up to 10 minutes with speed restrictions were in place just north of Junction 41 at Catterlen from 6-45am until around 9-30am this morning.
Two North West Ambulance Service vehicles were on the hard shoulder but details of the incident are not yet known.
