"Modern slavery" probe pair released

Date: Monday 8th April 2019

TWO people arrested as part of a probe into alleged modern slavery offences have been released under investigation, police have confirmed.

A man and a woman — both said to be Vietnamese nationals — were detained on 8th March as part of a Cumbria police operation which centred on a house at Jacobite Gardens, Clifton.

Cumbria police confirmed that a man aged in his 20s and a woman aged in her 30s had been arrested as "part of an investigation into ongoing modern day slavery offences".

Both were said to have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

A Cumbria police spokesman confirmed this morning that the pair had both since answered their bail. He added: "They have both now been released under investigation."
