Planning system changes after “poor performance”
EDEN Council is to change the way it decides which applications are debated by its planning committee.
A meeting of the full council held at Penrith last night considered a report in which it was said the old system had resulted in the authority being put at risk of a special measures designation by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government because of its poor performance when determining planning applications.
In some cases, applications had been turned down without valid reasons and against the recommendation of officers, leaving the authority vulnerable to costly appeals.
