Bomb squad called to Penrith

A controlled explosion was carried out of ammunition which had been handed into police at Penrith today.

Bomb disposal experts were alerted and carried out a controlled explosion in the area of Carleton Hall after the ammunition had been surrendered to police.

A spokeswoman for Cumbria Constabulary said: “The ammunition was handed into Hunter Lane police station.

“The explosion was carried out by EOD (bomb disposal) in one of the fields opposite Carleton Hall, with the landowner’s permission.”
