Children at Penrith’s Brunswick School bade farewell to their headteacher this week, as she left the school after 11 years at the helm.

Sharon Sanderson is leaving so that she can become a full-time foster carer for Cumbria County Council.

Sam Waugh will be moving from Beaconside school to take over the role of acting head at Brunswick School and is excited about her new role and the opportunities it brings and says, as the school motto states: “The future begins here…”

Mrs Sanderson said: “The last 11 years as headteacher of Brunswick School have been the most fulfilling of my life.

“I have really loved my job. Even though, at times, it has been extremely challenging, it has always been rewarding.

“Serving our school community and doing my very best to help all our children, staff, families and governors has been a real privilege.

“I hope the local community feel I have been a good custodian of the school.

“I will be forever grateful that I found a school which allowed me to be the type of headteacher I always wanted to be.”
