Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley was in Cumbria this week.

She stopped off at Appleby train station as she was on the Staycation Express, run by Rail Charter Services on the Settle to Carlisle line.

Staff at the station posted photos on social media and said it was “absolutely fabulous” to see the actor.

She was filming a documentary, which will air on ITV next year and travelled on the Staycation Express – the UK’s first dedicated tourist trainline.

At Appleby, she chatted to train driver Mike Wylie.

Joanne Payne, sales and events manager for the Settle to Carlisle Railway, said the Staycation Express had boosted visitor numbers in Appleby and many businesses in the town had told her it had helped post-lockdown.

She said it was a great to welcome Miss Lumley to Appleby station.

The actor stayed for a couple hours and local professional artist Neil Arms showed her a painting he had completed of her, which she autographed for him.
