A number of primary schools across the county will not open for face-to-face lessons with pupils until later this month.

Cumbria County Council asked the Government to allow primary schools to defer fully opening their premises to youngsters, switching to online learning for the majority and allowing children of key workers and vulnerable children into school.

However, the Government refused.
