One lane of the M6 motorway is closed due to a vehicle fire on the southbound carriageway, near Penrith.

A spokesman from Highways England said shortly before 12.30pm that the vehicle fire is between junction 41 (Catterlen) and junction 40 (Penrith). Emergency services are in attendance.

“Traffic is coping well,” the spokesman added.
